Jessie J delivered an emotional message to her fans at Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard in London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday night, ahead of her scheduled surgery for breast cancer. The 37-year-old singer was heartfelt as she revealed to the crowd: “I’ve always been an open book. Today, this show is my last show before I go to beat breast cancer.”
She added: “So it’s so special to me you have no idea. I feel so proud to be from the UK, to be an honest person and say how you feel. This is my last show before go treatment and all the things It’s the most special thing and I’m so grateful for this life, for you guys, for my career, to my, my son. My partner, my parents.”
She extended her gratitude towards her family, her band, and everyone supporting her. She said: “My family, my band, my crew. We are so lucky, we have so much to live for, so much joy… There is so much to do.”
She went on to introduce her track Living My Best Life, saying: “This song is the soundtrack for myself. This is hands down one of the favourite songs I have written and it’s called Living My Best Life. It should have been called living my breast life…”
She asked for collective good energy and solidarity, acknowledging that others might also be facing their own battles. She said: “Let’s put some good energy in this place because I know I’m not the only one going through something right now.”
Jessie, mother to Sky, 2, with basketball player Chanan Colman, has candidly shared her recent health struggle prior to the launch of her single ‘No Secrets’ on April 25. She’s been navigating a sea of medical appointments ever since.
In an earnest Instagram video, she confessed: “Before No Secrets came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I’m highlighting the word ‘early’. Cancer sucks in any form but I’m holding onto the word early. I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period…”
She added: “To get diagnosed with this, as I’m putting out a song called ‘No Secrets’ right before a song called Living My Best Life, which was all pre-planned before I found out about this, I mean you can’t make it up.”
Post-Capital Summertime Ball, Jessie indicated she would be stepping out of the limelight, saying: “It wasn’t something I’d planned, but yeah. I’m getting to keep my nipples, that’s good. It’s a weird topic and a weird situation.”
She announced her intentions to retreat temporarily for surgery: “I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t*ts and more music.”
The ‘Price Tag’ singer joked: “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job.”
