This Morning: Princess Beatrice gives update on Fergie’s cancer scare

Princess Beatrice completed her first live TV interview this Monday and Josie Gibson ended their chat with a sweet message for her mother, Sarah Ferguson.

The 35-year-old royal chatted to the This Morning host and her co-star Craig Doyle about her newest charity project with the Outward Bound Trust as she appeared live from the top of the Empire State Building in New York.

While she underlined the importance of her work, which aims to help young people, the princess was questioned about her mother’s health, months after she faced a skin cancer scare. Princess Beatrice reassured ITV viewers as she claimed “Fergie” is “doing really well.”

“She’s doing really well, thank you Josie. She’s had a bumpy health scare last year but all clear now”, Princess Beatrice said.

“At 64, she is thriving, she’s been through so much but I think really now she’s really coming into her own. We’re just reminded, when any parent or individual has a health scenario, just really get the checks that you need to get. My sister and I are so proud of her for taking the steps to get those checks.”

The rare family insight prompted Craig Doyle to coyly address the rest of the Royal Family as he said: “that’s been the message from all you family because it’s been a tough year for all of you across the board (…) it’s been heavy-going, I know”, to which the princess responded with: “there’s nothing more important than family.”

Josie quickly interjected as she was keen to send a message to Sarah Ferguson stating: “we’re all big fans of your mum here on This Morning, will you send your mum our love?” And Princess Beatrice was happy to oblige: “of course I will send my mum your best. When I’m back in the UK, maybe we can do something together.”

Princess Beatrice’s appearance on live TV and her sweet moment with Josie left some viewers swooning over her. “I think Princess Beatrice came across quite well… I like her”, one of them penned. Another agreed: “Well I quite like Beatrice. Good on her, doing great work.”

Royal fans may remember that Sarah Ferguson was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, in January, 2024. The diagnosis followed the removal of several moles, one of which was identified as being cancerous. While she remained in “good spirits”, according to a spokesperson at the time, she was said to be undergoing further tests to ensure the cancer had been caught early.

This followed the news of her eight-hour single mastectomy, which she agreed to after discovering she had an early form of breast cancer during a routine mammogram. Two months later, Sarah Ferguson was said to be in the all-clear.

“She’s undergone further surgery following the melanoma diagnosis to examine the area around the mole that was found to be malignant and her lymph nodes”, a source told The Daily Mail. “The good news is that these have all been found to be free of cancer so it looks like there has been no spread of the disease and the prognosis is good, though she’ll have to have regular check-ups going forward.”

Since then, concerns have grown for King Charles III and Kate Middleton as the pair were respectively diagnosed with cancer. But while the Princess of Wales has left the spotlight to focus on her recovery, the 75-year-old monarch made his long-awaited return to the public scene earlier this week amid cancer treatment.
