Kate Middleton fans think they’ve spotted the subtle way she tried to “woo” President Donald Trump during the state banquet on Wednesday (September 17) as she dazzled in an incredible gown. The Princess of Wales looked amazing as she unveiled her new Philippa Lepley full-length hand-embroided gold lace evening coat over a silk crepe gown.
The coat featured hand-embroidered roses with couched gold cording, accented with French knots and satin-stitched blooms and is said to highlight her commitment to supporting British craftsmanship and creativity. However, according to royal fans, the outfit was symbolic in more ways than one, as many think the gown was chosen in a bid to catch the eye of President Trump.
The Princess of Wales was also wearing the royal family Order of King Charles III, Royal Family Order of Elizabeth II, Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order and GCVO Star and Sash. The princess, and Prince of Wales, shared a picture of themselves ahead of the banquet on their social media channels with the caption: “Ready for the state banquet.” For the dinner, President Trump, who earlier told the princess she looked beautiful, sat beside her.
But, when it came to her dazzling gown, fans had a lot to say. Royal vlogger, known as matta_of_fact on TikTok, wasn’t afraid to share her thoughts with her over 1 million followers.
She said: “I am not usually speechless at royal events anymore but tell me you understand your target audience without telling me? Everyone say thank you Will and Kate for this new thing they’re doing where they take a family photo with just the two of them right before a state banquet, because we know what Kate is wearing before anyone else.
“If I say what I think the inspo was, will you promise not to get mad at me? I mean, the new Oval Office renovations anyone? The love of gold – gilt, gaudy.”
She then shows what the Oval Office looked like before Trump was in power, and it was a lot less lavish. The walls were neutral and, in her opinion, “tasteful.”
Trump has introduced a lot of gold to the decor, which some may say is a little “over the top”. It’s suggested the president thinks it helps to project status, wealth and power.
She added: “And so, yeah, just so he gets the message loud and clear – you are being wined and dined by a princess. Because, remember, the whole point is flattery, razzle dazzle, butter him up and then ask about the tariffs, get a better trade deal for Britain.
“She’s playing her part, what can I say? That’s just how the monarchy works. If you don’t like it, take it up with a thousand years of history.”
The video was signed off with “wowzers” to confirm how stunning the princess looked. It’s been viewed over 50,000 times since it was shared, and hundreds were keen to offer their views too, with many agreeing with the theory.
One person said: “I loved the dress and thought she looked beautiful.” Another added: “She looks great, but you’re not wrong.”
A third replied: “Hard agree. I love it though – she looks insanely amazing.” Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “Looks a lot better on her than the Oval Office.”
Someone else chimed in with: “Omg, you might be right. But this I like, not the Oval Office.” One person didn’t agree though, as they added: “Umm the royals, much less Princess Kate, would never discuss politics or political policies.
“That’s not the royals role nor lane. Queen Elizabeth made a significant point of that throughout her reign.”
