During her break-up with Prince William back in 2007, Kate had a frosty response when a celeb acquaintance asked her about their split at a party, a royal expert has claimed

Since the Prince and Princess of Wales first met at the University of St. Andrews, their relationship has largely played out in the spotlight.

The public quickly became fascinated with the young woman who had captured the future King’s heart at the height of so-called ‘Willsmania’.

Kate and William started out as friends before making things official. Then, after several years together, they briefly separated back 2007 amid talk that William wasn’t ready to commit.

The split proved to be short-lived, and they tied the knot four years later in 2011. And Royal expert Richard Eden, who appears on the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast, said it was during the split that he overheard a conversation that convinced him she would fit into life in the House of Windsor.

He explained how he met Kate for the very first time as she was chatting to the late socialite, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson. Tara, who passed away in 2017, asked Kate how she was doing in light of the heartbreak, the expert claimed. In the first instance, he said Kate replied, ‘It’s fine’.

But Tara is said to have pushed, adding, “It must be so hard”. At this point, Kate apparently shut the conversation down completely with just three cool words: “Really, it’s fine.”

In his Daily Mail column, Richard wrote: “She made clear with her body language that she didn’t wish to discuss the subject, and the conversation moved swiftly on to happier and less fraught matters.

“At that time, Catherine was seen as a party-loving girlfriend of William, but my first encounter with her taught me that she was a tough cookie who wasn’t going to be inveigled into saying something she didn’t want to say.

“Indeed, she reminded me of members of the Royal Family, much older than herself, who have the uncanny ability to make small-talk with anyone without giving anything anyway.”

During her official engagement interview, Kate said about their breakup, “Well I think if you do go out with someone for quite a long time you do get to know each other very, very well, you go through the good times, you go through the bad times. I think if you can come out of that stronger and learn things about yourself”.
