By being open about both of their diagnoses, Princess Kate and King Charles give hope to others living with cancer, and they will need more than ever the support that only family can provide

The thoughts of the whole country will be with the Princess of Wales following the news she has had cancer.

This will be an anxious time for Prince William, their three young children and the rest of the Royal Family. With the King also receiving cancer treatment they will more than ever need the support and comfort only a family can provide. We hope they can also take strength from knowing they have the people’s best wishes.

It is always worrying to learn someone has cancer but it is especially shocking when it hits someone such as young and active as Kate. This is a reminder it can affect anyone, regardless of age, status or background. By being so open about their condition, the King and the Princess will give hope to others living with cancer.

The next few months will be challenging for the entire Royal Family. The most important thing now is that Kate receives the best treatment possible and has the time and space to make a full recovery.

Dirty money

The Tories should have cut ties with Frank Hester the minute his vile com-ments about Diane Abbott came to light. Rishi Sunak had to be shamed into admitting his words were sexist and racist. And even then he refused to return the £10million donation.

Hester is now being investigated by police, raising further questions about the PM’s judgement. Regardless of the outcome of the inquiry, the Tories should hand back the tainted cash. It is incompatible for a party to claim to govern for the whole country and then accept gifts from someone with such repellent views. Mr Sunak clearly cares more about filling the Tory coffers ahead of the election than upholding decency and integrity in public life.
