Whilst the young Prince William was the main character of a rom-com, Kate Middleton was no less and has proven to be the pillar for the Royal family often whilst also making an impact through her charity work

The young Prince William was the main character walking out of a rom-com movie.

As well as being the future King, he was handsome, intelligent and caring – so it’s hardly surprising that he had lots of women after him when he was a young man first starting university. However he had his heart set on someone – the love of his life turned out to be Kate Middleton, a university housemate and friend, and people thought she was a very lucky lady.

But when one of the now-Duchess’s friends put this point to her she had a brilliant response, reports RSVP Live. During their university days at St Andrew’s, a friend told Kate how lucky she was to be going out with Prince William. While William was a catch in his younger days, Kate was no less beautiful or intelligent. In response to her friend, smiling, the Princess of Wales simply replied: “He’s lucky to have me.” Kate Middleton is arguably one of the most talked about and most popular royals and acts as a “pillar of strength” for her family. Kate has always had a strong sense of what she wanted to dedicate herself to and in the years since her marriage into the Royal family she has chosen charities and areas she is passionate about including art, sports, and children, as well as some new areas for her, including addiction and mental health issues.

After a brief split, William finally got down on one knee in 2010, to which Charles famously commented: “They have been practising long enough.” In her book, The Making of a Royal Romance, royal expert Katie Nicholl claims William vowed he would never be pressured into marriage before he was ready. The expert says that claims William learnt early on from his parents ill-fated relationship and was determined he wouldn’t do the same. She writes: “He was aware his father had been pressured into marrying Diana because she was deemed the suitable bride. He was reluctant to bow to similar pressure and vowed not to be hurried at the altar. He made his feelings clear, telling a journalist in an off-guard moment that he had no plans of getting married any time soon.”

The couple tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in April 2011. The Duchess seemed to adapt to life in the Royal Family quickly and is now a pro, and she will soon have to start teaching the couple’s three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis the ropes. More recently the future queen, 42, appealed for time, space and privacy for her family in March this year when she announced she was having cancer treatment. Last month Prince William told a well-wisher: “She’s doing well.” However, earlier this month Kate revealed her hopes for a public return “very soon.”
