If you’re not a fan of our eight-legged friends, here are some helpful tips to keep them at bay.
It’s a frightful sight, stepping into the shower only to spot a spider lurking in your bathroom corner. While spiders are beneficial for the environment and help keep other pests at bay, not everyone is keen on sharing their home with them.
Spider breeding season typically begins around September, but that doesn’t mean the summer months are devoid of these eight-legged creatures. If you’re looking to keep spiders out of your home without resorting to chemicals, don’t fret.
Alex Woods from Victorian Plumbing has offered his top tips on how to banish these creepy crawlies from your house without breaking the bank.
He revealed that certain plants with strong scents are disliked by spiders. Alex stated: “Plants such as mint, lemongrass or eucalyptus will not only elevate your bathroom interior but they will help ward off spiders as they hate these kinds of aromas.”
Another natural method to deter spiders is using lemon peels, reports the Express.
Alex said: “This is a favourite trick of mine.
“Rub lemon peels all over the windowsills or anywhere spiders may try and perch like behind the toilet or cabinets. The citrus will repel them and will give your bathroom a nice scent.”
You can also concoct your own spider-repelling spray using strongly scented essential oils.
Alex said: ‘”A drop of essential oil is enough to deter a spider.
“You can make your spider repellent by mixing essential oil (20 drops) and water in a spray bottle. Spray corners of your bathroom or any moist areas that are likely to attract the insects.”
For those keen to try this method, the most effective oils are those with potent fragrances including tea tree, lavender, peppermint, citrus and cinnamon.
