He has won over a legion of fans after never being far from King Charles’ side at some of his most high-profile appearances. Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson has become known as the ‘hunky’ equerry after catching the eye of royal fans while on duty with both the King and Queen Camilla in his trademark kilt.

And now it has emerged he has tied the knot for a second time, months after becoming engaged to PR executive Olivia Lewis. It emerged last year that the soldier, who is from the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, had struck up a romance with Olivia after he split from his first wife several years ago.

And according to the Mail On Sunday, the pair tied the knot just over a week ago in an ‘elegant’ and ‘low-key’ ceremony at St Mary’s Church in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire, which was followed by a lunch hosted by the bride’s parents. However, it seems it was shortly back to work after the big day as just two days later, the equerry was spotted in Canada with the King and Queen on their whistlestop visit across the Atlantic.

It emerged that the equerry had found love with Olivia last year after around a year of dating, with the pair being described as “well matched and very happy” at the time. Their engagement was later announced in The Times with the happy news coming just months after he won a promotion to become Charles’ ‘super equerry’.

Lt Col Thompson is now in a new role, which is seeing him stay on to work with both the King and Queen and be in charge of the monarch’s private affairs – but unfortunately for fans, this will mean he won’t be seen as much with the royals in public.

Equerries are drawn from the armed forces and are required to assist the royals both inside their residences and when out and about on public engagements.

This means he has been at the King’s side ever since his reign began and played a prominent role at the late Queen’s funeral, the Coronation and also won over a new set of fans across the English Channel when he accompanied Charles and Camilla on their trip to France in 2023.

He was also seen sitting behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at a service to mark the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last year. Also, he welcomed former Prime Minster Rishi Sunak as he visited Buckingham Palace to see the King.

One fan previously wrote on X: “Major Jonny Thompson is a tremendous hunk!” While another one said: “I think I’m getting a wee crush on King Charles‘s new royal equerry.”

He also earned the attention of society bible Tatler magazine, which praised his ability to “look as good in a suit as he goes in a kilt.” It explained: “It is from within the palace walls that the King’s equerry wields his unique brand of quiet, charming power; but he’s spotted where it counts, at the coronation, or on the opening night of the Berntson Bhattacharjee Gallery in Fitzrovia, for example, to which he wore a bunny tie and charmed India Rose James.”
