The King has been open about his cancer treatment journey, sharing a hopeful message as he expressed his belief that he’s on the mend.
During a visit to Bradford with the Queen to mark its recognition as the UK City of Culture, King Charles met a former cancer patient and offered insights into his health status.
Having undergone cancer treatment for approximately 15 months following his early 2024 diagnosis of an undisclosed cancer type, the King’s health has been a subject of public interest.
In a heartfelt encounter at Impact Hub Yorkshire, florist Safeena Khan had the honour of gifting a bouquet to the monarch, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Safeena reminisced about her conversation with the King: “He asked me how I was, and I asked him how he was. There were some pleasantries towards the end, but it was a lovely conversation.”
King Charles, who is receiving continual care at the London Clinic, reassured Safeena about his health, conveying optimism by saying: “I’d like to think I’m on the better side (of my cancer journey)”.
Despite a hospital stay due to temporary side effects from his treatments this past March, the King has increased his royal duties since the start of the year, driven by the positive trajectory of his treatment.
The King has previously reflected on his experience of cancer, saying it had brought into “sharp focus the very best of humanity” and telling cancer charities: “You have my whole family’s deepest admiration and gratitude.”
Prince Charles is set to jet off to Canada for the opening of the Commonwealth country’s parliament at the end of May.
Following a bustling summer period, he will be hosting a state visit by France’s President Emmanuel Macron during a time when the royal diary is typically winding down.
