The Royal Collection Trust has shared their annual review, with one key royal quarters welcoming more than double the number of visitors seen by the famous Palace
While Buckingham Palace has long been synonymous with the royal family, it seems the impressive London quarters is not the favourite royal residence among dedicated royal fans.
As highlighted in the annual review by the Royal Collection Trust, Windsor Castle welcomed a record-breaking number of guests in the last year, while Buckingham Palace failed to host quite as many royal-loving visitors.
According to the yearly review, Windsor Castle saw 1,367,000 visitors in the year 2024-2025, while Buckingham Palace, situated in the centre of London, only saw 683,000 royal fans visit in the same space of time. The impressive numbers come after King Charles axed a major tradition at the Palace .

Windsor Castle, located 25 miles outside of London, is close to where the Prince and Princess of Wales reside with their three children, making it a major attraction for anyone dedicated to the Firm.
While Windsor Castle is open all year round to the public, Buckingham Palace is closed for periods of time, but that didnât stop floods of royal fans making the journey to London to explore the stunning Palace.
During its summer opening in 2024, Buckingham Palace had a record-breaking number of visitors, with the opening of the East Wing, including a special tour, proving to be a major attraction – with almost 6,000 visitors taking the tour in addition to the State Room.
A record number of visitors were welcomed to the summer opening of Buckingham Palace this year with 646,389 visitors attending across 73 days â the highest number since the Palace first opened its doors to the public in 1993.
In comparison to the impressive number of visitors at both Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh welcomed 440,000 visitors throughout the year, while the royal mews received 165,000 visitors.
After largely dividing his time between the royal residences before he became King, Charles now spends more time at the Windsor residence. Windsor Castle was also a favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth.
Windsor Castle was also a popular residence for Prince William and Prince Harry during their childhoods, as well as their royal cousins such as Zara Tindall.
According to a member of staff who has worked for both the late Queen and King Charles, the castle is “coming to life againâ.
