What will the King and Queen do?

King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to arrive at the Sovereign’s Entrance at around 11.15am. They’ll be greeted with a 41-gun salute and met by the Lord Great Chamberlain – the sixth highest-ranking Great Officer of state.

At the moment the moment that role is held by Rupert Carington, a crossbench member of the House of Lords. He’s accompanied by the Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk. The King will put on the lavish Robe of State, which includes an 18-foot-long crimson velvet cape and is trimmed with gold lace.

He’ll also have the Imperial State Crown – which boasts nearly 3,000 precious stones – placed on his head.

From there he’ll make his way to the Lords Chamber, along with the Queen. Pages of Honour will carry the train of his robe.

As the couple arrive in the Lords, the lights will go up, having been theatrically dimmed. The King will take his place on the throne.
