When a man read his wife’s letter from her GP, promising that he’d help her recover from her operation, he was left horrified to find ‘proof’ she’d cheated on him

A “devastated” man was left heartbroken when he opened a letter from his wife’s doctor, only to find concrete proof in his mind that she’d cheated on him.

Seeking advice, he explained that he hadn’t been physically intimate with his wife for 10 years – and believes the letter explained why their sex lives had dried up.

He shared that their relationship used to be “wonderful” until 10 years ago. It all changed when she went on a hen do to Prague with pals, saying their intimacy has “deteriorated”. since She made so many excuses that he eventually moved to the spare room so they didn’t even sleep in the same bedroom. However, after seeing the doctor’s letter confirming his wife has an STI, he was left conflicted about whether to finally confront her.

He wrote to Dear Deidre, penning: “Last month, she had to go into hospital for a procedure and I asked to see the discharge letter, so I could help with her recovery”, and he read that she had herpes simplex virus.

It then became clear why she’d stopped being intimate with him, despite the fact that she’d denied she’d ever been “unfaithful” to him.

He said he felt “sick with anxiety” about the situation, not knowing what to do, but Deidre tried to reason with the man, telling him not to “jump to conclusions”.

She explained: “The herpes simplex virus can cause cold sores as well as genital sores, and it can lie dormant for many years – meaning your wife might even have had it before you met.”

Deidre did say, however, that it was important that he addressed the unhappiness he was feeling, as he’d obviously felt this way for “many years”. She recommended couples counselling so the pair could talk things through in a professional environment.
