Instagram wine expert Andy Pincott, has revealed three inexpensive Lidl wines that were “a bit of a surprise” in a good way

If you’re after a tipple that’s cheaper than your bus ride home, one wine buff has uncovered not just one or two, but three delightful wines for under a fiver.

They’re all up for grabs at Lidl and come highly recommended by Instagram’s wine guru Andy Pincott. Better known to his 68,000 followers as ‘affordablewinehunter’, Andy is the go-to guy for budget-friendly bottles of vino.

With his credentials as a judge for the People’s Choice Wine Awards, Andy’s got a keen palate for a steal of a deal. Fresh from a Lidl wine press tasting, the connoisseur was taken aback by three affordable finds, calling it “a big surprise.”

Over on his Instagram, he shared: “I always try the cheaper wines at a wine tasting, but I’m usually pleased to get to the end of the row and move on – an extra pound or two on a bottle can really pay dividends in terms of quality. However, these three were a bit of a surprise, and it wasn’t just me that noticed them too.”

He threw in a word of caution with his praise, noting: “I’m not saying that they are amazing but, for the price these are all very drinkable – and if this is your budget, then this is what I would recommend,” reports Wales Online.

Kicking things off, the £4.85 Chevalier de Fauvert Sauvignon Blanc grabbed his attention. He praised it as “surprisingly good for the price,” commenting that “French SB is quite different from NZ. It’s got a bit more body and doesn’t taste quite so ‘green’. Worth a try for the price.”

Holding a bottle of Chevalier de Fauvert Chardonnay Pays d’Oc, Andy claimed: “I was surprised this was actually Chardonnay. It’s very light, refreshing and with no oak. Quite quaffable for £4.85.”

His third and final pick was described as “probably my favourite of the three.”

The Pinot Noir, Vin de France, also surprisingly costs – you guessed it – just £4.85. He said: “A few people have posted about this already, and for good reason. It’s a simple wine, but tasty and very moreish.”

“It’s the sort of thing you would get in a carafe while holidaying in France and say ‘you know what? This is alright, I’ll have a bit more of that! ‘ Absolutely superb for a mid-week lunch.”
