You could save tens or even hundreds of pounds by taking a quick screenshot before booking your next holiday abroad

When it comes to booking a holiday abroad, it’s all too easy to spend hours, days or even weeks scouring the web to find the best possible deal.

For many, this process often involves comparing the prices for both package holidays and separate flights and accommodation. Some even go as far as booking ‘positioning flights’ to save when flying long-haul.

The problem is, by the time you’ve finished researching all the different options, the best deal has usually disappeared. Or by the time you reach the checkout, the flight you clicked on doesn’t seem to match the price initially advertised on the website.

This can add tens or even hundreds of pounds to flights by the time you pay – and that’s before you even add any extra baggage or seat upgrades.

Luckily, there’s a simple workaround – and all it requires is a simple screenshot.

Charlotte Davey, fashion editor for Condé Nast Traveller, has urged people not to overlook travel agents when looking to book flights.

She said: “A lot of travel agents (like Flight Centre) offer to beat any price for flight bookings. So, if you take in screenshots of the flights you want with the cheap price being advertised (the price that disappears as soon as you actually try to book) they will book the flight under that price.”

She added: “I did this once when I was travelling over Asia and saved literally hundreds of pounds.”

This isn’t the only way to find cheaper flights, however, and there are plenty of travel hacks you can use to save on your next trip. Another simple way of saving is being strategic about when you sit down to book your flights.

According to Forbes Advisor UK, 2023 data from Expedia shows that Brits who booked flights on a Sunday saved up to 23 per cent on average compared to those who bought flights on a Friday.

This isn’t an exact science though, and other sources say that the best day to book flights depends on the type of travel and your destination. Skyscanner previously found that Saturdays are the cheapest day to book domestic flights, while Sunday is reported to be the best time to book international travel.
