Thousands are arriving in London this afternoon (June 1) for the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium in North London. The 69th season of the competition will kick off at 8pm, but fans from across the world are already arriving in London ahead of the match.

The match is expected to have a significant impact on travel to and from London this afternoon, with packed trains and busy Underground stations likely. Before Real Madrid take on Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium, Transport for London has said safety measures such as queueing, Tube trains not stopping at all stations or changes to the way customers enter or exit a station may be necessary to manage the crowds.

Rail bosses have also told non-match going fans to avoid both affected Tube lines and seek alternative routes. But the Champions League isn’t the only event due to cause chaos for travellers this weekend – Mighty Hoopla Festival in Brockwell Park and Peter Kay Live at the O2 Arena could also lead to increased traffic.
