A stabbing has shut a busy part of Croydon town centre as emergency services rush to the scene. Local reports suggest there are about 10 police cars descended on Surrey Street in the Fellmongers Yard area shortly after 6pm this evening (Friday, April 12) along with at least one ambulance and some paramedic cars.
An air ambulance landed on a tennis court in the area near Croydon town centre. Nearby residents reported on Twitter that they were left “extremely scared” by the incident. One eyewitness has claimed they saw a group with large knives or machetes on bikes near the scene.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 18:02hrs on Friday, 12 April by the London Ambulance Service to reports of a man suffering a stab injury in Fellmongers Yard, Croydon. Officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance all attended the scene.
“The victim – believed to be aged in his 20s – was pronounced dead at the scene. A crime scene remains in place. One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and taken into police custody. Officers remain in the area carrying out urgent enquiries.”
