A murder investigation is under way after a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death in East London. A man – who survived the attack – was found with knife injuries in Rothwell Gardens, Dagenham, at around 1:30am on Saturday (April 20).

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service called police to the scene, who quickly found a second man with critical stab injuries on nearby Flamstead Road. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, that man sadly died at the scene.

Police say they know the dead man’s identity, but are still trying to tell his loved ones. The other man escaped with non life-threatening stab wounds, but after his hospital release has been arrested and taken into police custody in connection with the incident.

The force is now calling for witnesses who might be able to help their murder probe, which is being led by detectives from Specialist Crime supported by local policing colleagues. Anyone with information or any witnesses are asked to call police on 101, ref 621/20APR. To remain anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers.
