A person has died and five people were rushed to hospital after a house went up in flames in East London this morning. The London Fire Brigade sent six fire engines and 40 firefighters to a burning house on Napier Road, East Ham, at around 8.30am on Saturday morning (July 13), and managed to bring the blaze under control by 9:10am.
LFB Assistant Commissioner, Patrick Goulbourne, said: “Firefighters are attending a serious incident in Newham. I ask you to please avoid the area while firefighters respond, as traffic is likely to be impacted by the incident, and await further information from the Brigade.”
Paramedics also attended, with ambulance crews, advanced paramedics, members of the Hazardous Response Team, and London’s Air Ambulance.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews and emergency service partners, one person died at the scene. Five people were conveyed to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
Met Police in Newham are also at the scene. A force spokesperson wrote on X: “We are currently working with @LFBNewham and @Ldn_Ambulance at Napier Road, E6. The incident is currently ongoing and updates will be posted when they are available. Napier Road is closed to access at the moment.”
On Saturday afternoon the Met Police said five people were still being treated in hospital, but their condition awaits. The force also said enquiries are still ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.
Fire crews from Barking, Stratford, Ilford and surrounding fire stations attended.
