London has been hit with torrential downpours as thunder and lightning strike in some parts of the capital including Croydon. A video shared on social media shows a river running down a steep hill in South Croydon after heavy rain caused flash flooding there.

People have also tweeted about the insane rain in other parts of the capital and surrounding counties too. Incredible loud cracks and flash floods are being reported across the South East. Dave Ogden wrote on X: “Kicking off in Croydon and SW16 for sure. Continuous thunder, lots of lightning and the rain is getting more intense.”

The hot weather and humidity levels – currently at 65 per cent – saw a thunderstorm warning issued for London for most of Thursday (August 1). We’re in for another sticky night as humidity levels will continually rise throughout the evening, with levels to hit 84 per cent at 7am tomorrow morning (August 2).
