Live: New Cross stabbing sees man fighting for his life with area shut off by police

A man is fighting for his life following a stabbing in the early hours of Saturday morning (June 22). A man in his 20s took himself to hospital after being stabbed in New Cross. A man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and remains in police custody, confirmed the Metropolitan Police.

Officers and paramedics rushed to the scene in Lewisham Way shortly after 4.30am. A large crime scene was then put in place covering Lewisham Way, New Cross Road, Amersham Road, Shardeloes Road and Parkfield Road.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the police.

A Met spokesperson said: “Police and LAS were called at 0434hrs on Saturday, June 22, to a stabbing in Lewisham Way, SE14.

“A short time later a man, aged in his 20s, presented himself at a south London hospital suffering stab injuries. These injuries are being treated as life threatening at this time.

“A large crime scene remains in place around Lewisham Way, New Cross Road, Amersham Road, Shardeloes Road and Parkfield Road. An investigation is under way.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and taken into police custody. Anyone with information or any witnesses are asked to call 101, ref 1430/22jun. To remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers.”
