London Mayor Sadiq Khan says he is ‘devastated’ by an incident in Hainault, East London, that saw at least five people stabbed with a sword. The seemingly random attack saw a ‘critical incident’ declared as emergency services flooded the area in Ilford.

New North Road, close to Hainault Tube station, was closed after a car drove into a house in Thurlow Gardens and a man then started attacking people with the weapon. A video posted on X showed a man crouching in a front garden with a sword while police and an ambulance crew stand nearby.

The Met Police has issued a statement confirming several people have been stabbed including police officers and members of the public, with the London Ambulance Service providing more information, stating that five people were taken to hospital.
