Things should pick up slightly in mid-December
The beginning of December may well be a fairly unpleasant one for us Londoners. It’s according to The Met Office’s initial long range forecast which runs from Friday, December 5, until Sunday, December 14.
There will be ‘patchy rain and drizzle’ to begin with which could develop into ‘a spell of locally heavy rain’ with ‘strong southerly winds’. Temperatures will be fairly ‘average’ throughout this period too, meaning we’re in for a chilly old month ahead.
But in mid-December things may be warmer than we expected. That doesn’t mean the weather will be anything to write home about, just that it may be just about bearable.
It will also rain a little, but nothing major like at the start of the month. The UK’s national forecaster has also not mentioned any possibility of snow in the capital towards the end of the month, doing away with any hope of a white Christmas. The period is likely to be drier than the first half of the month.
The long range forecast, unfortunately, can’t be any more precise or accurate as predicting the weather half a month from now is a tricky task. The weather is entirely changeable, so all or none of what’s forecast now could turn out to be true.
The Met Office has also issued a couple of weather warnings this week. An amber warning runs from midnight until 9pm today covering South Wales, with warnings of heavy rain likely leading to floods.
Communities could be cut off for several days potentially, as well as dangerous driving conditions for road users.
A wider yellow warning covers the entirety of Wales and much of South West England, going up to Hampshire. This could cause difficult driving conditions, as well as delays to public transport.
