The new measures aim to reduce crowding and enhance punctuality on the line
Passengers of the Overground Weaver line are being urged to ‘check before they travel’ ahead of several changes next month. A new timetable has been designed to reduce crowding and delays, and it will take effect from December 14.
While the number of trains to each destination remains unchanged, all train times will be revised, potentially affecting the regular journeys of many people. Updated timetables will be available online, at stations and via the Transport for London (TfL) Go app from early December.
David Thomas, TfL’s Head of Concession for London Overground, said yesterday: “We’re making these changes to help customers travel more comfortably through one of the busiest parts of the network.
“By better matching capacity and demand at Seven Sisters, we can minimise crowding and improve reliability across the line. We encourage everyone to check the new timetable before travelling from 14 December.”
Further details from TfL show that its new timetable specifically aims to reduce crowding and enhance punctuality on services to and from Enfield Town and Cheshunt during peak hours. Aligning capacity more effectively with demand at Seven Sisters, the busiest station on the route, will help reduce congestion during peak trains and minimise delays, officials say.
According to the TfL website, the upcoming changes include:
At Seven Sisters station
Morning peak:
- Northbound: trains approximately every 6, 9, and 15 minutes
- Southbound: trains approximately every 8, 10, and 12 minutes
Evening peak:
- Northbound: trains approximately every 7, 10, and 13 minutes
- Southbound: trains approximately every 7, 9, and 14 minutes
Enfield Town branch of the Weaver line
Morning peak:
- Southbound: trains every 12 to 18 minutes
- Northbound: trains every 10 to 20 minutes
Evening Peak:
- Southbound: trains every 14 to 16 minutes
- Northbound: trains every 13 to 17 minutes
Amid new changes, Weaver line trains at the Cheshunt branch will run approximately every 30 minutes. The first trains on the Chingford and Cheshunt routes will depart slightly earlier, but the last trains remain unchanged.
Further advice from TfL reads: “An additional last train will operate from Enfield Town to Liverpool Street on Mondays to Thursdays inclusive, departing from Enfield Town at 00:16 Customers should check the new timetable before travelling to ensure they have the latest train times. Updated timetables will be available online at TfL.gov.uk, TfL Go app and at stations from early December.”
