Wacky London weather is set to see the city sizzle in 30C of sunshine after days of thunderstorms hit the capital. July has seen scorching temperatures in London so far with highs of 34C.
So anyone looking for relief from the capital’s scorching sun will be left sorely disappointed. But for sun worshippers the news will be a welcome sign to get ready to head out to the city’s many pubs and beer gardens.
The UK saw an uncharacteristically hot June and the temperatures in July have also been higher than normal. Many parts of the UK, including London, have seen temperatures over 9C higher than the average. A hosepipe ban has even been introduced by Thames Water for some areas. As of yet, London has avoided any restrictions.
Things are set to stay warm until the end of the week but over the weekend thunderstorms will start to creep in as temperatures drop to 23C. But the weather won’t stay that way for long as a new weather map by WX Charts forecasts that temperatures will shoot back up to a sizzling 30C on the following Wednesday (July 23).
The BBC has a slightly cooler prediction of 25C – so Londoners will have to wait and see which forecasters rings true. Temperatures are then set to remain high for the rest of the week at 27C, according to the BBC.
The hottest July temperature recorded in the UK is 40.3C, which was reached in Coningsby in Lincolnshire on July 19 2022. This was the first, and so far only, date temperatures above 40C have been officially recorded anywhere in the country.
