A warmer spell will arrive in southern England towards the end of the week
London is set to experience a brief milder period following the first cold snap of autumn last week. Temperatures dropped to a brisk 11C on Saturday, and to 5C overnight to coincide with the clocks returning to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
Many Londoners will have seen this as the time to store away their lighter jackets until spring – but don’t do this without checking the weather forecast first. The Met Office says temperatures will climb steadily throughout the week before reaching 16C on both Friday and Saturday (November 1 and 2).
Netweather currently has an even more optimistic forecast with the mercury peaking at 17C on Saturday. These weather maps show a mild front approaching the South East of England from continental Europe, as parts of northern France experiencing 20C during the same period.
This warmer spell will be coupled with mild overnight temperatures. Except on Wednesday (October 29) when a brisk 7C is forecast, the mercury won’t drop below 12C on Thursday and Friday nights (October 30 and 31) and 11C on Tuesday and Saturday (October 28 and November 1.
Forecasters say next week should remain mostly dry in London with more regular sunny spells at the start and end of the week. Throughout the UK, the Met Office believes November will bring changeable weather with low pressure patterns.
The forecast reads: “Showers or longer periods of rain will spread across most parts of the UK during this period. Some heavy rain is possible in all regions, but the largest totals will probably be across western areas. Strong winds are also likely at times, with a risk of gales.
“Between weather systems some short lived dry and bright intervals may develop, which bring the risk of overnight fog and frost. Temperatures overall though will probably be close to or slightly above average for the time of year.”
