Londoners have woken up to wet and dreary weather but thankfully, this seems to be on its way out. While the weekend saw isolated thunderstorms and rain, the capital is in for a another heatwave, according to the Met Office. Temperatures are set to skyrocket to the thirties again in just a few days.
Things will really start start to sizzle by the middle of the week as thermometers are predicted to climb to 31C on Thursday, July 11. This will continue to Friday and into the weekend, when the sun will shine bright until it sets just after 9pm.
Today (Monday, July 7), is set to be the greyest day of the week, so expect plenty of heavy clouds and a slight chill in the air. Thankfully, the heavy rain seen across yesterday afternoon and overnight is to cease by 9am.
Warm days ahead
Tuesday, July 8 will be noticeably brighter – and drier – than its predecessor, with a high of 25C and sunny conditions predicted from 10am until 8pm. However, prepare for a tougher night’s sleep as high humidity is likely to bring some discomfort.
Wednesday follows a similar theme, with sunny weather breaking through later in the afternoon. This is when things may become uncomfortable for some, as we’ll likely see mercury reach to 28C.
BBC Weather mostly agrees but predicts a high of 2C less and uninterrupted sunshine until just 2pm, when light clouds will set in.
Thursday marks a turning point in the weekly forecast as temperatures will rise to a positively scorching 31C on July 10. From there, the heat is sticking around- so prepare for more sweaty journeys on public transport.
Temperatures will simmer out to 30C on Friday, July 11, before the heatwave continues in full force over the weekend. We’ll enjoy a toasty 29C or more from around 1pm Saturday, July 12 to 9pm on Thursday, July 13, with a low of just 19C in between. If you haven’t already, it may finally be time to invest in a fan!
The experts at BBC Weather believe this will continue into the following week. Their forecast shows seven straight days of 28C plus. Make the most of any gentle breeze when it appears as it looks like they’ll be few and far between.
