If there is one thing that makes you less likely to commit a serious crime, it is being a woman. In 2023, only 22 per cent of prosecutions were of females, and of those convicted, only 13 per cent were for the worst indictable-only offences. While 10 per cent of men who were sentenced ended up behind bars, only three per cent of women were jailed.
The statistical differences are reflected on the most-wanted list too. CrimeStoppers currently has 30 people in the spotlight with links to London, but only four of them are women. Their offences ranged from taking a hire vehicle without consent, to being on recall to prison, plus immigration offences that could see them deported if they are caught.
