Love Island has hit our screens once again, and people are frantically discussing each episode on X as usual – but some have claimed that there’s something a little ‘off’ about this season

Love Island season is here, and people are well and truly hooked once more thanks to shock twists.

But this year, viewers of the ITV hit dating programme are not sure whether they’re into it, claiming that something feels “off” about it, and some claim that it could be down to the “personalities” that are in there this year, or whether it’s just the “lack of diversity” seen.

It’s even been branded as “underwhelming” by some X, formerly Twitter users, with people even complaining that all the people in the villa this summer are “side characters”, rather than bringing something specific to the table.

Social media user @CoCoMaiPhillips took to X to write: “Something is off with this season #loveisland.” She then continued: “It’s like everyone’s acting”.

Another responded: “There is no main character. Most of them feel like a supporting cast. And coming off a season with such strong personalities, it’s so underwhelming.”

Other jibes against the show included: “There’s not enough diversity”, “So dry!! They’re also still aware that there are cameras.” As well as: “No diversity, Indiyah and Whitney season thrived because they were diverse and had strong characters.”

A third chimed in: “Samantha, Nicole and Harriet look like they go to the same surgeon, hard to tell them apart. Patsy (who hasn’t had any TV time) and Jess look like twins. Mimi is the only natural beauty. The boys are mid.” While a fourth saidL “Feel like all the girls except Mimi paid for their spot”.

Someone else said that the show was “boring” this year, and “nobody” stuck out. Meanwhile, some weren’t even impressed with the shock twist of Joey Essex being present, writing: “It’s the fact they bought in Joey Essex who says ‘reem’ and ‘what you saying?’ At 33?????”

A further X user fumed: “It’s obvious from the start it’s going to be a boring season all of them just want brand deals and want to be the next Molly.”

As always though, there are people who love the season, with one person writing online: “Life is soo good when there’s a new Love Island season,” Another added: “Ready to live, breathe and only think of Love Island for the next 8 weeks.” While a third wrote: “I wish Love Island was like Big Brother so we could watch them 24/7.”

Many have also praised the shock twist that Joey Essex is in the villa, with comments including: “Joey Essex coming into the villa as a bombshell was not on my 2024 bingo card”, “Joey Essex just walked in I am so shocked”, and “Not gonna lie, I’m secretly excited about what Joey Essex is going to come out with for the duration he’s there. The stuff that comes out of that guy’s mouth is comedy gold.”

ITV have been approached for comment.
