A driver luckily escaped injury when a rock was thrown from a footbridge and crashed into her car on the M25. The windscreen of the woman’s car smashed in the ‘shocking’ incident and the rock also left a dent in the bonnet.

She was driving her grey Audi clockwise between Junction 8 (for Reigate) and Junction 9 (for Leatherhead) when the rock was hurled from a footbridge above. Surrey Police are investigating the incident which happened at about 1.45pm on Monday, June 23 and are urging anyone was in an area of Leatherhead around that time or any drivers with dashcam footage to contact them, as reported by Surrey Live.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for information after an object was thrown at a car from a footbridge over the M25. The driver of a grey Audi was travelling along the clockwise carriageway of the M25 between J8 and J9 when a rock was thrown at her car, smashing the windscreen and denting the bonnet. She was thankfully uninjured but understandably shocked.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and we are now looking for witnesses who may be able to help us identify the person or persons involved. Were you in the Teazlewood Park area of Leatherhead between 1.40pm and 1.50pm on Monday 23 June? Do you have any CCTV, dashcam, or helmet cam footage that may have captured all or part of this incident?”

You can contact the force if you have any information which can help in their investigation. You can do this in a number of ways; by calling 101 or via Webchat; or by using the police online reporting tool. Make sure to quote the reference number PR/45250075870.
