Drivers are being warned there will be major delays on the M25 across Wednesday (May 14) with the motorway closed anti-clockwise between Junction 6 Godstone Interchange (East Grinstead, Eastbourne, Caterham, Godstone A22; Westerham (A25) and Junction 5 Chevening Interchange (Maidstone, Channel Tunnel, Dover M26 (M20); Sevenoaks, Hastings A21).
There has been a severe crash involving two lorries, one of the lorries (a tanker transporting waste) has overturned and ruptured causing a serious spill of oil, diesel and waste on the motorway. Surrey Police, Surrey Fire & Rescue, South East Coast Ambulance Service and National Highways are all on the scene after the crash happened at 3:45am.
“. Once this has happened the carriageway is likely to need resurfacing before it can be re-opened. Referring to the closure, online Traffic site Inrix states: “Expected to stay closed all morning, and possibly for most of the day.”
The spokesperson added: “Traffic caught within the closure will be turned around to exit at Junction 6. This may take time as our Traffic Officers are currently in the process of implementing the full closure. Once this is done they will attend to road users caught within the closure and aid their release.”
M25 Diversion Route
Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signs.
- Exit the M25 at J6 then at the Godstone Interchange take the 3rd exit onto the A22 towards East Grinstead.
- At the A22/A25 roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A25 towards Westerham.
- Follow the A25 through Limpsfield, Oxted, Westerham, Brasted and Sundridge.
- At the traffic signal junction A25/M25 turn left to re-join the M25 towards Dartford Crossing.
