A crash involving four vehicles blocked four lanes of the M25 this morning (Wednesday, September 3), causing severe delays near Watford. Anti-clockwise traffic was brought to a standstill at Junction 17 (Maple Cross) just after 5.30am, and was diverted via slip roads.
Whilst the busy stretch was reopened at 7.15am, seven miles of congestion is only just beginning to move. National Highways is encouraging drivers to allow extra time for any journey in the surrounding area.
A second serious crash has also taken place on the clockwise carriageway in Kent between Junction 5 (A21, Chipstead) and Junction 6 (Godstone). Inrix reports a van has stopped and a car is off the road in the bushes
This had lead to the closures of lanes one and four, and eight mile queues towards J4 (Orpington) and along the M26. A diversion is in place via the A25 towards Sundridge and past Limpsfield into Oxted.
