Married At First Sight relationship expert Paul Brunson has shared some of his insights to help budding-lovers and how to avoid getting the ‘ick’ from your new partner

Married At First Sight gives singletons the chance to marry a stranger that’s been ‘perfectly’ matched to them, with the help of three relationship experts – now one of the experts has shared some of his top tips when it comes to dating.

He shared there are “four types” of couples personas when it comes to relationships, and shared how you can avoid getting put off your partner – also known as getting the ‘ick’ – and how to avoid a ‘messy split’.

As summer approaches, couples may be thinking about jetting off together, and Paul Brunson has offered some advice to those going on holiday for the first time with their partner, and help to avoid a dreaded post-holiday breakup. As it can be exciting for couples to go on their first holiday, a study found that nearly two thirds (60%) of young couples find it can be the ‘make or break’ moment in the relationship.

The study, commissioned by TUI BLUE found that over a quarter of couples (27%) don’t dare venture away together until they have been dating for between four and six months, while a further 40% wait even longer before jetting away and relationship expert and TV host Paul said it’s “not without good reason”.

“A first trip away together is an exciting but nerve-wracking step for most new couples,” said the TV host, who has also appeared on Celebs Go Dating. “There can be anxiety about spending so much time alone together that it reveals potential annoying or unusual habits to one another… or even worse, the ick.”

The study found that the three biggest “fears” new couples have while going on holiday together include health/how-stop-snoring-7-tips-5561529>snoring while sleeping, farting in front of a partner and sharing a bathroom. They also found what people’s “turn offs” were. These included discovering their weird habits, seeing how messy they are, and finding out they FaceTime their family every day.

While booking a holiday can be exciting, it’s not for all budding lovers. Age has been found to play a huge role in how soon couples go away. Those aged 18-35 were most likely to put their love to the holiday test quickly – with nearly a quarter going on holiday after one-two weeks of dating.

However, those aged 56-65 typically waited until after six months to book a big break. Expert Paul, who is seen as one of the ‘world’s most influential matchmakers’ is determined to help people get over the first holiday worries, and has shared the “typical couples holiday personas” to help “eliminate the stresses” of first-time holidays.

He shared some tips and itineraries that may help new couples and has broken it down into four types of couples, which he says often have very different holiday experiences.

Adventurous Spirits

“These couples thrive on excitement and physical activities. They are always up for a challenge, enjoy exploring nature, and indulge in thrilling experiences such as kayaking, snorkelling or paddle-boarding,” he explained.

Creative Epicureans

Paul said: “These couples are passionate about discovering new tastes, learning new skills, and expressing themselves creatively. They enjoy activities that stimulate their senses and creativity, like wine tasting or a cooking class.”

Cultural Connoisseurs

“These couples have an insatiable curiosity about the world and its diverse cultures. They are lifelong learners and enjoy immersing themselves in new experiences such as guided tours or trying local authentic dishes,” the expert suggested.

Romantic Relaxers

For the more romantic lovers, Paul said: “These couples are about relaxation and spending quality time with their partner in a romantic setting. They prefer laid-back activities and cherish moments of peace and intimacy, such as a romantic sunset dinner or a couples massage.”

These categories can help a smooth first holiday. “With over half of new couples surveyed opting for a beach holiday for their first big break together, TUI BLUE has some sensational resorts across various short, mid and long-haul destinations, that offer the idyllic solution for a getaway,” said Louise Bates, Managing Director of Concepts, Design & and Delivery for TUI BLUE.
