A major internet outage is causing widespread disruption to dozens of websites, online games and apps, including Amazon and Snapchat.

Problems began on Monday morning and appear to be linked to an issue with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing platform that hosts many online services.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks reports of site outages, more than 2,000 users in the US alone have reported issues with AWS.

On its service status page, AWS confirmed it was experiencing “increased error rates and latencies” affecting multiple services. “We are actively engaged and working to both mitigate the issue and understand root cause,” the company said. “We will provide an update in 45 minutes, or sooner if we have additional information to share.”

Downdetector also shows that popular platforms such as Snapchat, Roblox, Amazon and Coinbase are among those disrupted by the outage, highlighting its sudden and widespread impact.

No further details on the cause or estimated time for full resolution have been provided.
