Man, 22, charged with murder after pensioner, 81, died in South London

A man has been charged with murder after a pensioner died in Streatham. Police were called to Woodbourne Avenue, Streatham, on May 16. They were responding to reports that Robert Hill, 81, had died.

Mr Hill’s death was not considered suspicious at the time. However, following new information, further enquiries were carried out that led to a murder investigation being launched.

David Souttar, 22, of Chelsham Road, Clapham, was charged with murder on Thursday, October 23. He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 24, where he was remanded into custody. He will appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, October 28.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in Lambeth said: “Detectives from the Met continue to investigate Robert’s sad death earlier this year.

“I understand that this update may be a concern to those in the local area, please do speak with your local neighbourhood team who are there to support you.

“We would also like to ask the public for help, as we have been unable to identify Robert’s next of kin. If you knew Robert, or are a family member then please do come forward.

“This is devastating news, which is why we would like to speak with you and offer our support. The investigation and enquiries into the circumstances of Robert’s death remain ongoing.”
