A man has been arrested following an attack in Croydon which left a man in his 60s on life support. The 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent following the attack on Melfort Road, Thornton Heath.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at approximately 6pm on Sunday, May 12, to reports of a man being assaulted at a shop in Melfort Road, Croydon. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the victim, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

“He remains there in a critical condition. A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent – he remains in custody.
“Enquiries into the circumstances continue. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD5641/12May.
“You can also provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
