Man, 47 stabbed in Bethnal Green as woman, 46, arrested for murder

A man has died after being stabbed in East London, with a woman arrested on suspicion of murder. The man, age 47, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was stabbed to death in Bethnal Green.

Police and paramedics were called to an address at Victoria Park Square shortly after 10.15am yesterday (Monday, July 1) to reports of a man with stab wounds. The victim was rushed to hospital where he later died at 11.52am. The Metropolitan Police is currently trying to identify his next of kin.

The suspected killer was initially arrested at the address on suspicion of attempted murder. She was taken into police custody and later arrested on suspicion of murder after her alleged victim died in hospital.

Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke, who is in charge of policing for the Bethnal Green area, said: “My thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“Our investigation is still in the early stages and detectives are working hard to establish the circumstances of what happened. At this time we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.14am on Tuesday (1 July) to reports of an incident in Victoria Park Square, Bethnal Green.

“We sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer to the scene. We treated a patient at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
