A man was arrested on suspicion of kidnap following reports a young woman had been forced into a van in Canary Wharf in east London. Police were called at around 11.25pm on 30 September to Millharbour Road, near the junction with Lighterman’s Road, following reports that a woman had been bundled into a white Ford Transit tow truck by two men.
Officers from the Met’s Central East Criminal Investigations Unit have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify the woman, who is believed to be aged between 28 and 32.
Detective Inspector Grant Stevens, who is leading the inquiry, said: “We are keen to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and are concerned for the welfare of the young woman involved, who we believe is aged between 28 and 32 and been unable to identify.
“Were you in or near Millharbour Road, E17 around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious, or do you have any CCTV or mobile phone footage that will assist us with our enquiries? If so, please come forward by calling 101 and referencing 01/8032774/25.”
A 42-year-old man from east London was arrested on suspicion of kidnap the following day, 1 October. He has since been bailed while enquiries continue.
