A man was bottled in the head at Peckham Rye station earlier this summer, leaving him with serious injuries. The British Transport Police (BTP) say he was attacked whilst protecting a group of people from abusive train passengers on Saturday, June 7.
Detectives believe he pushed the pair off the Southern Railway service but was then assaulted on the platform. The men repeatedly punched the good Samaritan and smashed a bottle over him, wounding his face and neck in the process.
The shocking incident happened at around 7.20pm. BTP has now released CCTV images in the hopes someone will recognise two people whom police want to speak to in connection.
The first picture shows a young white man with dark curly hair. He appears to be wearing a black hoodie.
The second shows a teenage-looking Black boy with a black baseball cap.
A BTP statement reads: “Officers would like to speak to those pictured as they believe they have information which could help their investigation.”
Just last month, a man was taken to hospital with a head injury following a violent assault at Mile End station.
He was set upon in the ticket line just before 11.30pm on July 20, with police, paramedics and a doctor rushing to the scene minutes later.
Anyone with information on the Peckham Rye incident is urged to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 860 of 9 June. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.
