A man is due to appear in court on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in New Cross over the weekend. Ahmed Ahmed, of Brockley Rise, Forest Hill is accused of knifing a man in his fifties outside New Cross Gate station on Saturday, August 16.

Police arrested the 36-year-old on the busy road just after 5.30am the same morning. He was later charged with possession of a bladed article on top of the single count of attempted murder, and will attend Bromley Magistrates’ Court today.

The injured man remains in hospital, but his condition is not thought to be life-changing or life-threatening, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed. New Cross Road was shut to traffic and pedestrians following the incident, with a cordon stretching from the Overground stop to the Marquis of Granby pub.

Pictures taken at the scene show a London bus surrounded by police tape. Bloodied clothes and medical equipment were also strewn across the road.

New Cross was previously rocked by a fatal stabbing just two weeks earlier. Ayowale Aladejana was knifed to death on his doorstep in Monson Road on August 2 – just half a mile away from Saturday’s incident.

Couple Ben Wazabanga and Ronique Belfon, both aged 23, have been remanded in custody charged with the 26-year-old’s murder. There is no suggestion of any link between the two stabbings.

Anyone with information about Saturday’s stabbing is asked to call the police on 101, quoting CAD 1645/16Aug. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.
