A 28-year-old man from Slough has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run on Thursday, May 22. Simranjit Kajla, 28, of Lydford Avenue, Slough, was also charged this morning (Tuesday, May 27) with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance.
PC Christopher Miller is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by a white BMW at 10.20pm on Thursday on Bells Hill in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire. Kajla will appear before Reading Magistrates’ Court today. A 38-year-old man from Slough arrested on suspicion of murder and causing injury by dangerous driving has been released on bail until August 23.
A 43-year-old man and 37-year-old woman, also from Slough, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice. The former has been released under investigation while the latter remains in police custody.
Speaking to reporters near the scene, Detective Superintendent Will Crowther, said: “On Thursday, one of our officers was seriously injured whilst simply doing his job. He is currently in hospital with life-threatening injuries. We are now in a position to confirm that the injured officer is PC Christopher Miller from our Roads Policing Unit.
“The incident happened at around 10.20pm on Thursday May 22, on the B416 Bells Hill, Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire. The officer was involved in a collision with a white BMW vehicle, which did not stop at the scene.
“Christopher has sustained very serious injuries and remains in hospital in a critical condition. His family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers, as are his closest colleagues.
