A video of a man mixing tomato soup with Guinness has horrified TikTok users, who described the concoction as “absolutely diabolical”.
TikTok user Ben Stanford left viewers disgusted as he necked the half and half pint of tomato soup and Guinness. He told users he hoped it was “everything you wanted” and asked for suggestions on what else he could mix with the classic Irish tipple. For the tomato soup and Guinness blend, Ben suggested it would be “perfect” for students.
Tipping the contents of a Co-op own brand tomato soup can into a Guinness glass and pouring the alcoholic beverage in over the back of a spoon, Ben created a mix that was likened to the food and drink soldiers in World War 1 consumed.
Ben said the “lovely little combo” would be a “perfect one for you students out there who are getting ready to go out and want pre-drinks but you also need a nice, cheap meal with it”. Ben then downed the tomato soup mixed with a “perfect temperature” Guinness in a stomach-churning clip.
One user joked in response: “I am always thinking to myself how can I have pre drinks but also have my tea in so thank you so much for this idea!!” And after bringing a sick bucket into frame before sampling the pint, Ben managed to make it through the Frankenstein pint.
He remained adamant it was a surprisingly nice drink, telling his followers: “It was actually okay. I half recommend this one for people out there who want to try something new. It wasn’t too bad at all actually.” However, not everyone was convinced. One person said: “We used to drink this combo in the trenches during WW1.”
While the tomato soup and Guinness drink may not become a pub staple, TikTok users suggested some further mixtures for Ben to try. Suggestions included a “Guinness & Tonic”, a mixture of lime and Guinness and even a curry sauce base.
