Unwanted social interactions are a thing of the past after a man revealed his quick-thinking method of getting out of speaking with strangers – and it’s really simple
A man has discovered a game-changing way to avoid speaking with strangers in public.
Unwanted social interactions are a thing of the past for this person who seems to have tapped into a way of ignoring members of the public he has no reason to speak with. Taking to r/Confessions on Reddit, a forum user has revealed their state-of-the-art tactic for getting out of talking to strangers, and it involves “pig Latin.”
They wrote: “When strangers approach me I pretend I don’t speak English to avoid them. Whenever people I don’t wanna talk to approach me I act confused and talk in pig Latin.”
Pig Latin is a coded way of communicating, and commonly used among children. Dictionary.com explains it’s “derived from ordinary English by moving the first consonant or consonant cluster of each word to the end of the word and adding the sound (ā), as in eakspay igpay atinlay, for ‘speak pig Latin”.
He added: “Surprisingly a lot of people think I’m speaking Spanish even though they don’t sound anything alike.” His stellar way of avoiding idle chat with strangers has been trialled by a few people who commented on the post. One user joked: “Fine, Unless there is a latin pig walking by.”
Others had found different language barriers which could be used to their advantage. Speaking of embarrassing topics out loud tended to keep strangers at bay according to one user who says they would speak of “flavoured suppositories” to get rid of unwanted individuals.
They wrote: “I just start speaking like I’m in the middle of a conversation so that others feel too awkward and walk away. It’s usually nonsense and quoting lyrics from songs. Example: When I still went to church, and someone approached me with intention, I just begin saying ‘…and I told him, “You don’t need flavoured suppositories.” Anyways, this town don’t feel mine. I dressed you in her clothes to drive me far.'”
A third user revealed they had been using this tactic “for years”. They wrote: “I have been doing this for 20 years No English No English. If they start speaking Spanish I say I don’t speak Spanish either. Because f**k them that’s why!”
