A patient who was pronounced dead before he was sucessfully revived has shared the chilling experience – he believes his life has changed for the better and said he was ‘reborn’

A man who died and then came back to life has recalled the moment he “saw a brilliant light and walked into it”.

The anonymous patient recounted the eerie experience and said he was reunited with his dead grandmother in between the revival. He shared the different stages before he returned to consciousness and said he had a profound conversation.

According to the Reddit user, he was induced with “abject panic” as he thought about his contribution to the world when he was resuscitated. But after he got over the shock that he had died for a period of time, he realised there were positives from the experience. “I guess I just needed to die to be reborn,” he said.

He shared the chilling experience after someone on the platform asked what it was like, reports Manchester Evening News. The post said: “Redditors who have died then been resuscitated, what do you remember seeing? I’ve always been curious. Also, if anyone has any stories about how this changed their perception on religion, please share.”

In response, the man said: “As cliche as it may seem, I saw a brilliant light, and walked into it. Inside, I saw my childhood home and my recently departed grandmother. We talked awhile and then she asked me a question that hit me like a ton of bricks: ‘Are you doing something that matters with your life?'”

Moments after this profound interaction, he was brought back to life, only to be engulfed by panic upon regaining consciousness. He continued: “When I was resuscitated, I came back in abject panic, but the most pressing thing that was in my mind was the realisation that if I had died at that moment, I would have left the world worse off for having me in it.”

He confessed to his past as a difficult individual, acknowledging the negative impact he often had. However, a brush with death became a turning point for him. The man reflected: “I decided to change who I was and make life a little kinder. I now work as a counsellor working with traumatised children who have experienced abuse, and I have never been happier. I guess I just needed to die to be reborn.”

The patient added: “I had a powerful experience and can’t really explain it, but if I focused on that, I would be wasting my time on daydreams instead of doing what matters: trying to leave the world a little better than when I found it.”

His story is not unique in encountering a ‘bright light’ during a near-death experience. A woman recounts a similar vision after a traumatic incident at the age of 13. She described her experience after being clinically dead for six minutes following a bus accident, before regaining consciousness in a hospital bed surrounded by her family.

She recounted: “At first it’s nothing. No sound, no wind, no light, no weight. It’s like the weight of the world just disappears and you’re in the deep end of the pool just floating there. No matter how far you reach out, you can’t grab anything. It isn’t cold, it isn’t hot, it isn’t painful. It was absolutely nothing, and it felt like I was there for a long time.”

“After a while, there is a flash of light all around me. I felt a small tingle shoot down my body, and I don’t know what happened, but I started falling. Like I suddenly just fell from someplace high up. It’s like, when the school bully comes out of nowhere and just shoves you to the ground, or you trust and fall onto someone and they don’t catch you. It was a long fall, the light faded and I was back into the deep end of the pool.”
