Man in his 40s dies after Croydon shooting outside Costco

A man in his forties has died following a shooting outside Costco in Croydon yesterday evening (June 19). He was gunned down on Imperial Way shortly after 5pm, with paramedics treating him for multiple injuries.

He was pronounced dead on the roadside shortly after. A forensics tent and cordon is now in place between the superstore’s car park entrance and the loading bay of Selco.

Police have not released the man’s name but is supporting his family, according to a statement issued this afternoon. The Metropolitan Police’s Major Incident Team is now investigating the daylight attack and is urging witnesses to make themselves known.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, leading the investigation from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “This was a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time. Our team of specially trained officers are supporting them as are our investigation progresses.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would urge any witnesses to come forward and share information with us.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information that could help the investigation, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 6530/19JUN. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.

Pictures taken at the scene yesterday evening showed several ambulances surrounded by a crowd just off Purley Way. Imperial Way itself remains part-closed to traffic.
