Man rushed to hospital in serious condition after horror M25 crash between lorry and road sweeper

A man has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after a horror M25 crash between a lorry and a road sweeper. A 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been arrested following the incident.

The M25 anticlockwise has been closed since around 3.46am this morning (Wednesday, May 14) when a lorry and road sweeper collided between Junction 6 for Godstone and Junction 5 for Chevening Interchange. The HGV overturned in the crash and “ruptured” causing a complex spill of waste, oil and diesel on the motorway.

Police were called to reports of the crash in the early hours of the morning. The man was then rushed to King’s College hospital with serious injuries.

A man, 30, and a woman, 25, have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving without due care. Surrey Police are still asking that anyone who saw the incident gets in contact with them.

The M25 anticlockwise remains closed between Junction 6 and Junction 5 with Surrey Police expecting it to stat shut for ‘several hours’. Traffic caught in the closure zone has now been released. Accident investigation work is still on-going causing delays of around 30 minutes in both directions. A full diversion has been put in place.

A spokesperson for South East Coast ambulance (SECAmb) said: “SECAmb was called shortly before 3.50am today (14 May) to reports of an overturned lorry on the M25 between junctions 6 and 5.

“Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by a team from Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey, Sussex, which attended by road. One patient was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Kings College Hospital by road.”
