A man who was “born with four fingers” on each hand gave an insight into what his life is like. While people were keen to ask questions, many were also quick to point out something major
A man revealed he doesn’t have middle fingers as he was only born with four on each hand.
The anonymous bloke shared his story on Reddit, and got a lot of people talking about body parts. Many people wanted to know how it happened, so he explained why he only has eight fingers in total, and the reason why may surprise you.
He wrote: “Hello everyone, as you can see by the pic – I’m missing the middle finger on both hands. The condition is called oligodactyly.
“I had an operation as a one-year old to remove the bones from the middle finger on my left hand, as they were undeveloped and were ‘stuck’ on the back side of the palm (just beneath where the middle finger should begin). On my right hand – the middle finger and the ring finger are fused as one finger.”
Since he shared the story many people have had questions as they’d never seen anything like it before. He was quick to respond though, claiming he simply has to “honk and shout” when he’s seriously displeased when driving.
Some people had heard of the condition, and told their own stories. One person said: “My cousin has the exact same condition, and also had surgeries as a toddler to help her dexterity. Other than that she’s living a pretty chill life and I’m proud of her.
“When I was younger I used to notice her hands but, nowadays when I’m around her, it doesn’t even get my attention or notice. I wish you all the best.”
A lot of conversation has been centred around the fact the middle finger is missing. Many pointed out it must be gutting not to be able to make a particularly rude gesture when feeling frustrated.
One person quipped: “Of all the fingers to be born without.” To this, the bloke responded: “I agree. I don’t think I wouldn’t have issues if some other finger was missing.”
Another added: “You flipped a lot of people in your previous life.” A third replied: “You must be very polite.”
Meanwhile, a fourth person thought the picture was amazing, simply writing: “This is quite possibly the coolest picture I’ve seen in a long time. Those hands look absolutely like masterworks.
“I especially like how you can see where the fingers never separated fully on the right hand and the left is a work of art. Genetic lottery there. Beautiful!”
As for the bloke who posted the snap, he answered a lot of people’s questions, and was seen cracking a joke or two himself. He was happy to explain how the condition impacts his life, and took many comments in his stride.
