When a man spent £50 on two blocks of cheese from Harrods in London, some people were left gobsmacked saying that it was ‘crazy money’ to spend on food – but when he gave his review, many were intrigued
How much would you spend on a delicious block of cheese for a special occasion? What about two blocks? When one influencer spent £50 on two blocks of fromage, people were left wondering why in the comments. But his verdict may change your mind about picking up a supermarket own-brand product in the future, and may have you desperate to go to the fancy department store.
Carmie Sellitto popped into Harrods in London to do an ‘expensive cheese review,’ captioning his video: “I can’t believe I spent £50 on this”. He tried the blocks of cheese in his car, and while some were left disgusted, writing: “Eating raw cheese in the car is diabolical work,” others were desperate to try it for themselves.
First off was a white truffle cheese, which came in at £26 for a small block. When he opened it, he said the smell was “crazy”.
“That looks insane,” he gushed, as he held the cheese up to the camera and you could see the truffle running throughout the cheese.
He then opened the jelly that goes with it, joking that it “looks like ham” but felt “like raw salmon”.
Carmie then said: “Here goes nothing” as he bit into the cheese, adding: “That’s literally insane. Wow. I could eat this whole block, easy”.
Then, he took a bite out of the cheese, and a bite out of the jelly – perhaps not how it was intended to be eaten, but he found it delicious nonetheless.
In the comments, some suggested that it was likely to be quince jelly, which would accompany the cheese perfectly.
“Oh my god, what?! The jelly gives it a sweet chilli jam flavour. That’s unreal,” he gushed, rating the cheese a 9.5 on its own, but with the jelly, a 10/10.
Next up, for £24, was the “ten-year-old parmesan,” as he joked it had been “chilling in Harrods for ten years”.
Carmie said that the smell was “very very strong,” and as he took a huge bite, he looked shocked. However, he later described it as “so nice”.
“I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that,” he said. Carmie then joked that his friend, who wasn’t on camera, was “gagging in the corner,” as he said: “That smell is very strong”.
Carmie did note that the cheese “doesn’t taste that strong, though,” despite the pungent aroma.
He said it was “good,” but he wouldn’t choose to “eat it on its own,” rating it a 6/10.
In the comments, someone joked: “If you think that was divine, I highly recommend you try the most exquisite miniature fromage which is enrobed in a delicate, ruby-hued wax and is called la babybel.
“It is such a petite wheel of artisanal dairy delight, its creamy interior a testament to time-honoured cheesemaking traditions, that I will happily buy it for you”.
Another shared: “All parmesan is the same if you buy it real, don’t go to Harrods for it, you’re paying more for nothing”.
Others said they were shocked at the price point of the cheese, saying it’s “crazy money”.
