A man was allegedly choked at Oxford Circus Tube station after demanding his broken glasses be paid for. He was travelling northbound on the Victoria line at around 3.40pm on April 21 when another man allegedly grabbed them off his face and destroyed them.

The victim insisted the damage should be covered but his request resulted in a nasty assault. He was punched in the face upon leaving the train, causing two teeth to be knocked, before being put in a headlock and choked.

Detectives investigating the daylight attack have now released in an image of a man they want to speak to in connection. It shows a man with a shaved head with a short, dark beard and moustache.

He is also wearing a black, long-sleeved top. Anyone who recognises him is urged to contact the British Transport Police (BTP) by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 338 of 21 April.

Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111.

A BTP statement reads: “At around 3.40pm on Monday 21 April the victim was on a northbound Victoria line train when a man grabbed his spectacles and broke them. The victim protested and demanded he pay for the damage.

“When the man left the train at Oxford Circus he punched the victim in the face, knocking out two of his teeth, before putting him in a headlock and choking him.

“Officers would like to speak to the man pictured as they believe he may have information which could help their investigation.”
