A comedian has been spotted trying to travel through the infamous Dublin-New York portal after he was seen lurking nearby, clutching his passport and suitcase as he looked for an entry point to the ‘other dimensions’
A man tried to use the now-closed ‘portal’ between Dublin and New York to travel to another country for his holiday.
Clutching a suitcase and his passport, Dublin-based comic Ryan Carrick claimed he “only travels by portal” in a hilarious post to X (formerly Twitter) The clip then showed Carrick preparing to head straight on through to the other side to New York.
The Dublin-New York portal was introduced to each city earlier this month but was closed down after people on both sides pulled off a series of inappropriate incidents, one of which saw a woman on the New York side flash her breasts through the camera.
The news will come as a blow to Carrick, who branded the portal “dead handy” and humorously appreciated its “no queuing, just straight through” policy. He said: “I have the passport and the liquids. Now I know other lads had issues with creatures from other dimensions. My mate Graham is still actually floating through the ether.”
Later in the clip Carrick could be seen wandering in a semi-circle in front of the portal as plotted his entry. He was seen sheepishly returning to the camera before saying: “It’s not a real portal.”
Twitter/X viewers loved the video, with one writing: “I’m f***ing dying.” Another praised the video and wrote: “Gave me a much needed chuckle.”
A statement released by Dublin City Council earlier this week confirmed the portal would be temporarily taken down to address “technical solutions” affecting the portal. They wrote: “We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days with our partners in New York to ensure that Portals continue to deliver a positive experience for both cities and the world.” A council spokesperson added while the “overwhelming majority of interactions are positive,” some experiences had been an example of “a wider narrative of cultural behaviour.”
New York-based content creator Ava Louise came forward to confess she had been the one to flash the portal earlier this week. Speaking to the Daily Star, Ava said the move came after Irish portal fans made jokes about 9/11 via the system. “Well, Dublin showed NYC the twin towers, so it was only fair I showed them my twin towers to save our city from harassment,” she said.
