A man is his fifties has been arrested after armed police swarmed a block of flats in Stamford Hill yesterday (August 8). He remains in custody on suspicion of firearm possession, having allegedly threatened another man with a gun.

No one was injured during the incident, and detectives believe there is no wider risk to the public. Calls were made to 999 just after 11.15am, with police, paramedics and firefighters soon flooding the residential area below.

A cordon was set up along Amhurst Park and Holmdale Terrace whilst armed officers swept the scene. Overground services at the adjacent Stamford Hill station were unaffected, but a number of bus stops were closed.

The surrounding roads were reopened to traffic and pedestrians at around 3.15pm.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers have arrested a man in his 50s on suspicion of possession of a firearm. He remains in police custody. We were called at 11:18hrs on Friday, 8 August following reports a man had been threatening another man with a gun at an address in Cambridge Court, Hackney

“We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public. There were no reported injuries.”

Police were supported by London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London Fire Brigade.

In a statement, LAS added: “We were called at 11.21am today (8 August) to reports of a police incident in Dunsmure Road at the junction of the A10, Hackney. We sent an incident response officer and a member of our tactical response unit to the scene.”
